Église Saint-Pierre de Shawinigan

Shawinigan ( Mauricie )

Discover a masterwork by master stained-glass artist Guido Nincheri (1885-1973), who decorated over 200 churches in North America. The stained glass windows illustrating the life of St. Peter the Apostle with the brilliance of natural light leave no viewer unmoved. The Church of Saint-Pierre houses one of North America’s most beautiful collections of stained glass, created by Italian artist Guido Nincheri between 1930 and 1968, as well as a symbolic representation illustrating the life of St. Peter. With its new Italian Renaissance architecture and refined décor, this unique historic building is an important part of Québec’s heritage.

Decorated twice, once in the 1930s and again in the 1960s, by the Italian painter and master glassmaker, the Saint-Pierre church contains a magnificent stained-glass series representing major events in the life of the first pone and three large windowpanes on the themes of the Ascension, the Pentecost and the Gates of Heaven. These works are a reflection of the immense talent of their creator, who had no less than 450 colours in his palette.
