Les moulins de l'îsle aux Coudres

Isle-aux-Coudres ( Charlevoix )

This exceptional site in Quebec is worth the detour. It boasts an 1825 watermill and an 1836 windmill, both beautifully restored. Visit the mills and the miller’s house and see the old way of grinding wheat and buckwheat using authentic grindstones. You can walk around on your own or take a guided tour. In the new reception centre, you will also find educational workshops on the science of flour milling, a permanent exhibition of the work of folk artist Alfred Desgagnés and a media room showing films and other visual documentation of the habits and customs of the islanders. When you come, why not also enjoy a picnic on the site!
