Grange Alexander-Solomon-Walbridge

Saint-Ignace-de-Stanbridge ( Montérégie )

The Alexander Solomon Walbridge barn, built in 1882, is the oldest polygonal barn in Quebec and the only one with 12 sides in North America. The barn contains the remains of a hub as well as a clever mechanism attached to the roof structure and formerly connected to a hydraulic power source. It reflects the creative genius and originality of its designer Alexander Solomon Walbridge, engineer, inventor and gentleman farmer. The barn was listed monument May 27, 2004 by the Ministry of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women of Quebec.
