Havre-aux-Maisons Dune-du-Sud

Îles-de-la-Madeleine ( Îles-de-la-Madeleine )

Island Havre aux Maisons is one of the islands that make up the Îles de la Madeleine. There are three towns in Havre-aux-Maisons: Cap-Rouge, Pointe-Basse and Dune-du-Sud. The people call the Maisonnois and Maisonnoises. The island is located northeast of Cape Grindstone, which is separated by a channel that crosses a short bridge. This channel connects the Gulf of St. Lawrence, south and east of the island, with the lagoon of Le Havre-aux-Maisons which lies to the west. Another bridge across the lagoon makes Route 199 to reach the island by Dune aux Loups North. A long dune, the Dune du Sud, extends the island to the northeast for several miles, preceded by a large pile of sand formations called furrows. The island is dominated by the Round Butte, the west side is bare of trees. This island, surrounded by cliffs of varying colors, retains a country feel with its scattered houses and winding roads.
