Les marais Saint-Barthélemy

Saint-Barthélemy ( Lanaudière )

The area encompassing St-Barthélemy and St-Joseph-de-Maskinongé is the second largest spring staging of the St. Lawrence River for dabbling ducks. Naturally, the site was flooded during spring floods, during the months of April and May. At this time, the territory is used extensively for rest and feeding waterfowl. After the flood, the medium was drying quickly and was no longer a suitable habitat for wildlife wetlands. To remedy this situation, there Ducks Unlimited has established two permanent marshes little profondstotalisant a total area of 50 hectares. The construction of dams and the peripheral control structure installation of the water level allowed to flood the site and to maintain a stable water level. With its abundant and diverse birdlife, Saint-Barthélemy marshes is the joy of nature observers.
